Ashok is a Resident Advisor to Langham Capital in India.
Ashok has 38 years of experience of Indian banking, both working within India, and supervising a major banking business in India from a base in Hong Kong, London or Singapore. He spent his last eight years in banking as the Executive Director of Deutsche Bank’s Regional Head Office, operating from Singapore. Faced with the major challenge of developing the business in India, Ashok oversaw the bank’s expansion from one to five branches, and its rise from obscurity to become one of the leading foreign banks in India.
Prior to his joining Deutsche Bank, he was Managing Director of Grindlays Bank plc based in London and immediately before that Regional Director based in Bombay (now Mumbai). Grindlays was the leading foreign bank in India at the time, with 56 branches. Ashok faced the large and complex managerial challenge of converting Grindlays into a major international "local" bank. Ashok overcame the challenge, and successfully bridged the relationship gap between the Reserve Bank of India and the Ministry of Finance.
Since his return to India, he has been a Management Consultant as Chairman of Roland Berger in India, and is currently an independent director with companies such as Glaxo Smithkline Consumer Healthcare, Abbott India and Akzo-Nobel Coatings. He sees his role as helping to strengthen the concepts of corporate governance.
