Forest Essentials sells stake to global beauty major, Estée Lauder

In July 2008, Estée Lauder, the beauty and cosmetics multinational, purchased a stake in Forest Essentials, an Indian manufacturer and retailer of quality Ayurvedic products.

Founded in 2000, Forest Essentials is one of the leading luxury beauty brands in the country. The transaction brings Forest Essentials the benefit of Estée Lauder’s brand-building, marketing, and distribution expertise, and provides Estée Lauder with access to the rapidly expanding Indian beauty market.

The deal was the second ever investment into an Indian luxury brand and the first instance of Estée Lauder investing in an Asian brand. As such, the transaction is signify a new level of international confidence in the Indian luxury retail market.
